Household energy usage calculator

This calculator estimates energy usage in a household. The power calculated is the average: the actual use has large spikes when particular appliances are in operation (e.g. washing machine), as well as daily and seasonal variations (e.g. heating / cooling). Power supplies generally need extra short-term capacity to cope with these variations, from storage (e.g. batteries) or a grid connection. This calculator gives an approximate estimate: a much more detailed assessment is needed to make an accurate estimate.
